CLEARWATER, Fla. — A new affordable housing project in Clearwater is nearing completion.

Clearwater Gardens, located at 1250 Cleveland Street, is a 4-story building with 81 one and two-bedroom units.

The complex serves households with incomes 30% – 80% of the area median income. According to the Florida Housing Finance Corporation, the AMI for the area is about $98,000.

“One of the top priorities here in Clearwater, is to support the development of inclusive housing,” said Dylan Mayeux with the City of Clearwater’s  Department of Housing and Economic Development.

The building will feature 52 one-bedroom units, eight 2-bedroom, 1-bath apartments and 21 2-bedroom, 2 bathroom units. The apartment sizes will range from 605 to 929 square feet.

And the complex will feature amenities for the residents.

“Tenants will have access to the clubhouse with a kids’ room in it, also have access to a fitness center and then the Clearwater Community Garden is also on the property as well,” said Mayeux.

Construction started in June of 2024.

Crews with Hennessy Construction Services are now putting the finishing touches on cosmetic issues inside and landscaping outside. The building should be ready for residents to move in in mid-October.

According to city officials, funding contributions include: The Clearwater Community Redevelopment Agency and City SHIP and HOME loans administered by the Economic Development and Housing Department.
